Industrial Rope Access

Rope access is a form of work positioning, initially developed from techniques used in climbing and caving, which applies practical ropework to cater for the various needs of industry.

A.P.S is able to provide specialist staff who have solid experience in particular types of work.

The industry has an exemplary safety record which derives from rigorous adherence to the following safety characteristics: rigorous training requirements produce professional, highly aware technicians;

•  A rope access technician always has attachments, each having an independent anchorage point.
•  When the worker is supported by ropes, each of the worker's ropes will have a fail-safe descent mechanism.
•  All secondary tools and equipment (e.g. drills, sealant, etc.) are attached by lanyards to worker's harness.
•  A minimum of two technicians are required for any job.
•  All technicians are independently assessed.
•  Training includes rescue procedures.
•  All equipment is regularly inspected and maintained.
•  Codes of practice and working systems have been carefully refined over the years by the HSE and irata.

•  Rope systems can be installed and dismantled quickly which means they removed from site at end of each shift.

•  Single contact point for the client. Roped access technicians provide both access and undertake the required work.
•  A practical, safe solution with the ability to solve awkward and troublesome problems that might otherwise absorb a disproportionate amount of time and money.

IRATA

IRATA the Industrial Rope Access Trade Association was formed in the late 1980's , as the result of an initiative by a number of leading companies involved in industrial rope access techniques, to provide a safe working environment for the industry.

Safety is paramount in our industry. Since its formation irata, and its member companies, have worked assiduously to:
improve safety in the industry.
produce an industry standard set of guidelines and training requirements.
provide a comprehensive assessment and registration process for operatives.

Much of this work has been carried in close liaison with the Health and Safety Executive (UK). This has created an effective framework within which, in the decade that irata has been collecting safety statistics, there have been NO major or fatal accidents amongst its members. The incident rate for members is consistently well below that of other industries during the same period. Rope access provides an effective, efficient and economic means of access. However it must be carried out in a proficient and safe manner.
